    Wireframe: Albany Census Data

The main question this project asks is “Where were people in Albany coming from?” The biggest part of this project will be a map. I’ll break it down into each year on the census from 1850 to 1940. I would like to have a world map where a viewer can highlight a certain country or region and be able to see how many people were born in the selected area.

I would also like to show the information about people once they were in Albany such as literacy and occupation. I will probably do this using a graph to show different occupations and literacy rates. I think I will use both absolute numbers as well as percentages for this information, as well as the birthplaces of individuals.

There will be some essay text included. This will serve to add historical context to the movements of people to Albany from their birthplace. For example, political or social conflicts in certain regions in certain years.

Mapping Great Lakes Shipwrecks Wire Frame

This project is mapping the wrecks of the Great Lakes.  For the purposes of this project, a shipwreck is a vessel that has experienced an incident that has placed it out of commission.  Because of the incident logged within, the vessel never sailed on its own again.  This can mean the ship was sunk, or damaged beyond ability to repair and return to service.

    Wire frame Slave Trade

    By Jesse Aragona

The main component of my project is my two maps, this map isn’t the product but a similar image from the internet. The finished products will be uploaded to a website. containing both the essay text broken down into both the Trans Atlantic and Internal Slave trades as well as chronicling and explaining the importance and impact of the voyages.

The main focus of my project is beyond just tracking the journeys but is an attempt to provide a link to where journeys began and ended, using the data set regarding both trades. The final project will also contain a revised table, featuring locations and the names of ships to trace the journeys.

    Wire frame for Museum Buffs

For this project, I hope to teach visitors how museum objects are cataloged and show them the difficulties of cataloging objects with little information. At the end of this project, visitors will be welcomed to play the role of a museum cataloger using real objects held at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.

    Wireframe: Transatlantic Slave Trade

My project will map and graph the data for the Transatlantic Slave Voyages Database and feature several interactive pieces that will work in tandem to provide context to different time periods and individual voyages. It will consist of a map section, text and filter options, and a timeline.

    Wireframe: Evert Wendell

My project will have three main components featured on a dashboard: introductory essay (where the argument is made), a timeline to supplement the text, and a Twine story that will bring the trade to life.

The first will be a brief introductory essay regarding the trade of alcohol and furs between traders and Native Americans in early America, specifically looking at Albany, New York. I’m still unsure of an argument but I’m working on it.

The second part will be a time line that traces major changes like laws that influenced the trade of alcohol, reasoning for the cost fluctuation, and the life of Evert Wendell (who lies at the heart of the project). The timeline will span further than Wendell’s trade book dates to give the reader more background (mid-1600s to mid-1700s). I would like to have short paragraphs written to explain the relevance of each major event. In addition, these events will be reflected in the essay portion.

Finally, the project will have an interactive Twine story. Readers will be able to “live” the life of a person who traded with Evert Wendell. They will choose from three different people, all selected from Wendell’s trade books. The twine story will begin as the person begins the trip to Albany. This section will include maps that detail the trek a person might have to take, travel times, and surprise decisions that the trader has to make. They will reach Albany with a certain amount of pelts (based off locations and numbers reflected in the data) which will determine what they buy. I have not figured out the logistics of this part but I want it to remain interesting, fun, and a big part of the story. Unlike the previous sections, this part will deal mainly with Wendell’s trade books as well as its translation. The “game” will end with a short bit about what the person may have done with whatever they bought. I see the twine story looking somewhat like the Oregon Trail game. Probably with less dysentery though.
